Pilgrimage 2026

River Avon, June Summer Solstice

A pilgrimage is more than an event. It’s a collective act of remembrance and relationship. To walk is be part of a movement, connect with each other, the river and the landscape we share.

We welcome every faith on our pilgrimage and ask every walker to hold each others beliefs and differents kindly. The intention is to find commonality with each other and reciprocity with the Avon Bioregion.

If you want to join the pilgrimage, even just for a small section, it’s really important to read and sign the registration form. The form holds most of the information on the pilgrimage.

Please join our Pilgrimage WhatsApp group to keep updated about changes, be part of the planning process and to track the pilgrims as they walk.

An overview: this year we will walk the river once more, following the Avon as it moves through land, story, and community on the summer solstice.

Each day we will cover roughly 15 miles, please only attempt the full distance if you have had some experience with long walks. See the google form for specific timings.

  • Our opening ceremony will take place in Pill on the morning of June the 20th
  • We will then walk to Bristol and have an overnight campout at Field Trip Sauna with a free sauna and meal for any pilgrim and music and stories shared around the fire
  • On June the 21st we will walk from Bristol to Bath for a closing ceremony at the Parade Gardens near the sacred hot spring

Mrs Meg Avon’s first pilgrimage, the week before her wedding to the river:

Next year, and every year, we will begin where we left off and walk for two days towards the source, improving access and building a relationship with our river that is mostly inaccessible to us.

Occassionally we will be forced to tresspass to keep following the river, if you don’t feel comfortable doing this, this may not be the walk for you.

There will always be the option to continue walking after the set two days if you feel moved to – once you start it is sometimes hard to stop..
